NRG vs DRX Tokyo Masters: NRG eliminate DRX

NRG and DRX fell through in their respective upper-bracket matches. While both teams are two of the best in their respective regions, they are now facing elimination. Pearl saw both teams bring out their defensive sides. While NRG started with a narrow lead after the initial rounds, DRX were more than ready once they had guns on their hands.

DRX marched ahead to a 8-4 lead. The lead was not insurmountable, but a few rounds going the wrong way would've made the map very difficult for NRG. Fortunately for them, they won the pistol securing the next two rounds with ease. The NRG playstyle relied heavily on information across the naturally big map to often confound their opponents.

Victor in particular was exceptional on the B bombsite and throughout the map when he was able to gather multi-kills with relative ease.

Ultimately, NRG marched ahead with a slight lead and taking the first map. Taking a one-map lead in such a crucial elimination match was phenomenal for the North American survivors.

NRG started in the group stage, Group A to be precise. The team won against NAVI and T1 esports both series resulting in a 2-1 win for NRG. The NRG roster has been one of the most successful rosters in North America. The team dominated most of the international competition last year, but now there’s been a roster change. And that has fundamentally changed the NRG playstyle and performance.

Regardless of the change, NRG is still one of the best teams in the world. The team has a versatile gameplay that relies on countering their opponents while also enhancing their own playstyle. Whether they are able to counter a strat-heavy roster like DRX is still up for debate. 

Meanwhile, DRX is a team that has continuously been a top-tier team. However, the team has not been able to win a big international tournament in some time, but it would be foolhardy for any team to dismiss DRX as a team that cannot win. The team is stacked with extremely talented players and with Coach Termi, they do not lack the strategic depth to their gameplay.
