Fnatic vs EG Masters Tokyo Grand Final: Fnatic are crowned Masters Tokyo Champions

The time has come for the Masters Tokyo Grand Final and we have a incredible matchup in the form of Fnatic vs EG. This has the potential to be a true match for the ages and you will not want to miss out on this one. And we will be bringing you all of the action as it happens.

The stage is set for an epic EMEA vs Americas League clash for the ages at the Tipstar Dome Chiba. Both sides have faced a myriad of challenges to get to this Grand Final, with each team vying to carve out their own slice of VALORANT history here in Tokyo.

Fnatic were victorious in their previous match against Evil Geniuses in the Upper Bracket final. Although the EMEA giants came out on top 2 - 1 in that game they faced plenty of adversity against the American side. They had not lost a map at Masters Tokyo prior to the aforementioned matchup, and it was a match that required every member of Fnatic to step up in a big way. And that same level of performance will be required if they are to defeat EG again. After all, a win for Fnatic would mean they would become the first team to win back-to-back international honours in a single season in the VCT era.

Evil Geniuses have been without question the most talked about team in this tournament. From barely managing to qualify for the Americas League playoffs, thanks to a little assistance from MIBR, to beating the Number 1 seeds from all three regions in the knockout stages, EG have been the personification of a dark horse. They had never been to the grand finals of a major international event before today, yet now they find themselves in touching distance of ,what seemed like, an unlikely title. But will they be able to achieve their fairy tale ending, or will they fall to the might of Fnatic once more?

This Grand Final has all the makings of a true EMEA vs NA clash for the ages. And we cannot wait for it to get started.

The match begins with a trip to Lotus for Map 1, curtesy of Fnatic. Both sides opt to go for similar looking double-controller agent compositions.

EG get things going on their defensive half by winning the first pistol round. But Fnatic responds well to take the eco round. And they manage to chain together three more rounds in a row as they establish an early 4 - 1 lead on their attack half. With their star initiator Leo having a hot start to this grand final. But unlike the last time these two sides faced off on Lotus, EG does not crumble under the pressure as they go on a four round streak of their own to regain the lead at 5 - 4. The teams go in level at the half 6 - 6.

Fnatic wins the second pistol round and secure their anti-eco as they regain their lead from the first half. And they convert on their bonus round, with Leo continuing to thrive amongst the chaos for his side. Fnatic reach the double digit mark at 10 - 6, with EG struggling to make as much of an impact on their attack as they did on their defence. The EMEA side hits map point soon afterwards, but a much needed 4k from Ethan gives EG a lifeline on this map as they reduce the lead to 12 - 8. But this late surge is brushed aside, thanks in part to Boaster's use of the Odin, as Fnatic manage to close out Lotus 13 - 8 and establish a 1 - 0 lead in this series.

After falling on Lotus, EG bring this series over to Split for the second map of this series. Both teams opt to go for the same team compositions they used the last time they faced off on this map.

Fnatic take the first pistol round and they follow that up with a flawless anti-eco round as they get their defence side off to a good start. JAWGEMO gets a 4k as EG are able to deny Fnatic their bonus round. But Fnatic continues to grow into this game, as they hold a 5 - 2 lead on the map. Things do a get a bit scrappy in the late stages of the half, with Demon1 and JAWGEMO keeping EG alive in this half. But Fnatic's set plays prove to be a crucial piece for the EMEA side. Enabling them to take an 8 - 4 lead into halftime.

EG are able to take the second pistol round of the map as they look to balance things out on their defence half. And EG chain together four more rounds in a row to overtake Fnatic's lead at 9 - 8. But the EMEA side finally find their footing again in this game as they hit the double-digit mark. EG dig their heels in for another scrap with nothing to separate the teams at 11 - 11. A 4k from Derke puts Fnatic on map point and leaves EG's economy in a sorry state. And that proves to be the dagger for EG, as Fnatic are able to snatch Split away from them 13 - 11. Increasing their lead in the series to 2 - 0.

Having come out on top over EG on Split once more at Masters Tokyo, Fnatic take this series to Bind as they look to close out this Grand Final. With EG's backs up against the wall, they opt to throw caution to the wind in this series in terms of their team composition. With Demon1 picking Chamber and Boostio busting out Reyna.

Fnatic go flawless in the first couple of rounds to start off their defence side. EG responds with two rounds of their own to keep things close. The map descends into a never-ending scrap, with both sides struggling to make a dent in the other early on. But EG dig in deep on their attack as they are able to break the deadlock; thanks in part to the efforts of Demon1 and Ethan. And they are rewarded for their efforts with an 8 - 4 lead after the first half.

EG are able to take the second pistol round, thanks to a brilliant lurk from C0M. And they quickly reach the double digit mark as they look to put Fnatic away as quickly as they can. But the EMEA side will not go down quietly as they manage to claw a few rounds back. The map continues to be a scrappy affair, with EG emerging from the Chaos to put themselves on map point at 12 - 7. But Fnatic manage to steel themselves as they off rip five rounds in a row to pull themselves level with EG. Subsequently forcing Bind into overtime.

Fnatic start overtime off on Bind with a bang as Derke pulls off a big lurk play to put his side on Championship point. EG had been a much improved side from Map 1, and looked like they could push this series to the end. But when the dust settled at the end of this incredible series, it was Fnatic that emerged to seize all of the glory as they were able to take Bind 14 - 12 to close the out the Grand Final 3 - 0 and be crowned the champions of Masters Tokyo.

VCT Masters Tokyo is here at long last. Ten teams representing each of the three leagues, as well as two invited teams from China, are set to battle it out in Japan for a chance at Masters glory.
