This has sparked quite the debate online on whether ExtraEmily is in the wrong for this or if people are just overreacting. The streamer, who was last seen talking about it on her stream has now released an official statement via X.

In a recent IRL stream, ExtraEmily began talking about how her parents had spent upwards of $140,000 on her college tuition. However, the streamer never ended up using her degree after her streaming career skyrocketed.
The creator then said she did not plan on paying them back.
In another video from quite some time ago, ExtraEmily and her mother traded witty banter back and forth on how much the streamer cost her mother in tuition fees, claiming she was broke because of her.
As someone who understands satire, it was quite apparent that the two were just joking around. Quite a few people on the internet did not see this, though.
During the streamer where ExtraEmily said she did not feel the want to pay her parents back, many viewers in her chat replied with backlash, which ultimately led to the streamer breaking down in tears.

Just a few days after the controversy, ExtraEmily emerged on X to release a statement regarding the entirety of the situation.
"I paid my parents back for my tuition," said ExtraEmily on X.
The creator continued to break down her thoughts on the situation, ensuring people that she does in fact take care of her parents.
"I realize how fortunate I am to be in the position I’m in — to have the means to provide for both myself and my family. Contrary to online belief, ever since garnering success as a streamer, I have ensured that my parents’ lifestyle and needs are taken care of. I would never let them suffer; they’re my parents who raised me."
In the comments under her post, ExtraEmily also provided proof with a screenshot showing she has paid her parents back.
ExtraEmily apologizes for bringing it up
Also, in her post, ExtraEmily made a statement apologizing for even bringing up the situation while live on Twitch.
"It was my fault to bring it up in New York. I thought it would be appropriate to discuss given that it’s how my parents and I always banter with each other, and I knew they’d be okay with being the butt of the joke, which they do to me too," said ExtraEmily on X. "We wouldn’t be talking about such matters on stream in such a casual manner if we didn’t have a solid relationship."
The streamer then thanked the public for thinking of her parents in this situation.
"Thank you for caring about my parents, but I assure you they are financially stable even without my assistance and are adequately taken care of regardless."
