The format of RLCS 2025 Split 1 qualifiers

The qualification series for RLCS 2025 Birmingham Major consists of three open events. Each is divided into regional tournaments.

The qualifiers follow the same competitive format.

  1. Double Elimination, up to two days. All teams compete in double-elimination brackets. The top 32 advance further.
  2. Swiss stage, one day. Two groups with 16 teams in each. After the Swiss System matches, the top 8 teams (16 in total) advance to the following, smaller Groups.
  3. Group stage, 1 day. Two groups with 8 teams in each — via GSL System brackets, the top 8 teams are determined for the final stage.
  4. Playoffs, 2 days. The top 8 teams compete in Hybrid Elimination brackets: up to the grand final to determine the winner.

Rocket League esports teams in RLCS 2025 Split 1 earn standing points. After three qualifiers, the top teams on the regional leaderboards get their spots at Major 1 in Birmingham.

The state of Rocket League esports

We have two notable trends in the competitive Rocket League.

The first one is optimistic. The game remains popular, and many tournaments happen even in the off-season period. There is a dedicated Rocket League Collegiate series to help young talents grow up to the professional scene.

The other trend is somewhat disturbing. The top 2 teams from the RLCS 2024 World Championship released their roster and apparently left Rocket League esports: Team BDS and G2 Stride.

It’s interesting to witness what happens with the scene in 2025. The prize pool of $5m should support the growth of RLCS and the community.
