Are these going to be the starters for Pokémon Legends ZA?

The starters for Pokémon Legends ZA have apparently leaked via artwork for the 2025 Pokémon World Championships. There has been surprisingly little news about the next instalment of the Pokémon game from Nintendo since it was announced eight months ago.

However, over the last couple of weeks, there has been a deluge of leaks about the game. Of course, the validity of these cannot be fully confirmed until we get some official announcements.

These leaks seem reasonably credible, mostly thanks to the artwork and when it would release. The Pokémon World Championships are taking place in August, 2025. By then we will know much more about the game (hopefully!) so featuring Pokémon, including the starters, from Pokémon Legends ZA makes a lot of sense.

What are the Pokémon Legends ZA starters?

According to the leak, the Pokémon Legends ZA starters are:

  • Chespin
  • Froakie
  • Fennekin

This would be a simple return to the original starters that we got in the Generation 6 games, X and Y. Fans had expected a mix between starters from different generations, so this leak has some as a little bit of a surprise. The only other Pokémon Legends game, Arceus, used starters from multiple generations. However, these Pokémon were all new Hisuian forms in their final evolutions. We don't know if this will be the case again.

With Mega Evolution returning in Pokémon Legends ZA, there is hope for Mega Evolutions of the three starters final forms. That would mean Mega Greninja, Mega Chesnaught and Mega Delphox. This could soften the disappointment that some fans are expressing about getting a straight re-run of Generation 6's starter lineup.

Are these leaks reliable?

On the face of it, if this artwork is real, this seems like a reasonably reliable assumption and leak. However, nothing is ever confirmed until official and this could just be a call back to X and Y rather than a Legends ZA themed artwork. That would be slightly strange, given Legends ZA will be on the horizon when this event takes place, but is not impossible.

Hopefully, official information about Pokémon Legends ZA will start to be released soon. Starter Pokémon is usually information shared pretty early. So, stay tuned for more information on esports.gg.
