Crossplay is a must-have feature these days for multiplayer games such as Marvel Rivals.

Almost any major multiplayer game has crossplay these days and Marvel Rivals is no different.

Nowadays, gaming PCs are just as popular as consoles. So, pretty much any developed add crossplay to allow these gamers to play together.

However, there's a catch in Marvel Rivals crossplay.

How crossplay works in Marvel Rivals

In summary, here's how crossplay works in Marvel Rivals:

  1. PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 players can play together in non-ranked modes.
  2. Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players can play together in the Competitive playlist.

While Marvel Rivals will offer crossplay at launch on Dec. 5, the setting won't fully work in Competitive Mode.

PC has its own ranked ladder in Marvel Rivals while Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players compete in the same ladder.

There are a couple of reasons that could explain this. The devs probably want to keep the Competitive Mode separated because console players use controllers and most PC gamers will use mouse and keyboard.

Additionally, PC historically has way more cheaters, so it's possible that NetEase Games didn't want to compromise those on the console while they improve Marvel Rivals' anti-cheat.

Does Marvel Rivals have cross-progression?

Marvel Rivals won't have cross-progression at launch. So, you won't be able to carry over your Marvel Rivals progress from PC to console, or vice-versa.

The game's director Guangyun Chen told TheGamer during the Tokyo Game Show in October that they couldn't work on this feature in time for the global launch.

"For now, we have no cross-progression. As we only have around two months to go global launch, we are doing the final tech check to see what we can do and how we can process it. The workload is a lot more than we thought at the beginning.

We are still having internal discussions, and we’re not sure when we’ll be announcing our decision."

The devs are working on implementing cross-progression in the future, according to an Ask Me Anything (AMA) segment on Discord.

That said, if you're planning to play Marvel Rivals right after the launch, we advise you to choose your platform wisely if you own a console and a PC as you won't be able to alternate between them in the same account.
