Qualification path and previous performance

It’s interesting to take a quick look at the qualification path of the Worlds 2024 teams and their performance at some previous international events.

LCK teams

Korea has four slots at the World Championship.

  • Gen.G Esports are the winners of MSI 2024. Gen.G is a real contender for the Worlds title. They won the World Championship in 2022.
  • Hanwha Life Esports defeated T1 in the LCK Summer 2024 lower-bracket final. Regardless of the grand final result (vs Gen.G), HLE is in the Worlds
  • Dplus won the LCK Regional Finals 2024 upper final against T1. The team got the 3rd qualification spot.
  • The fourth Korean team and the LoL esports Worlds event, was determined on Sept. 14. T1 earned the spot in the lower final against KT Rolster.

LPL teams

China is the second region with four slots at LoL Worlds 2024.

  • Bilibili Gaming won LPL Summer 2024 and qualified from that split. They were 2nd at the MSI 2024 and finished World 2023 3rd-4th.
  • Top Esports got their slot thanks to the LPL Championship Points. They finished 2nd at EWC 2024, so it’s easy to expect a great performance from them.
  • LNG Esports qualified from the upper brackets of LPL Regional Finals 2024. Their most recent international tournament is World 2023, where LNG Esports finished in the top 8.
  • Weibo Gaming proceed to Worlds from the LPL Regional Finals 2024 lower brackets. They were 2nd at World Championship 2023.

LEC teams

Three teams qualify for the League of Legends World Championship from the Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) region.

  • G2 Esports is the strongest team in Europe (EU). They won the EU Grand Slam: all three splits and the Season Finals. Their international performance is not that impressive. Still, G2 finished 4th at the MSI 2024 and 3rd and 4th at the EWC 2024.
  • Fnatic is a runner-up at LEC Regional Finals 2024. Their international results include the top 8 at MSI 2024.
  • MAD Lions KOI performed a great comeback in the regional competition to earn this Worlds qualification. They are 3rd at LEC Season Finals 2024 after losing to G2 in the lower-bracket final. Internationally, the players should still prove themselves. They were in the top 8 at MSI 2023.

LCS teams

North America (NA) has three representatives at Worlds 2024. While they are already known, their specific placement in the tournament stages should be decided in the LCS Summer 2024 event.

  • Fly Quest won LCS Summer 2024, making it to the grand final via lower brackets. They lost to Team Liquid in the upper final but then defeated the same opponents in the grand final. Fly Quest participated in MSI 2024 but finished 9th-10th.
  • Team Liquid players start from the Swiss stage. They finished LCS Summer 2024 2nd after losing in the grand final to Fly Quest. Team Liquid finished 5th-6th at MSI 2024 and 3rd-4th at EWC 2024.
  • 100 Thieves are 3rd at LCS Summer 2024, so they start at the World 2024 from the Play-In stage. They were 11th-14th at League of Legends World 2022.

PCS teams

This is a smaller League of Legends region, so only two Pacific teams are going to the World Championship.

  • PSG Talon are generally the strongest PCS team. They won both regional splits in 2024. At MSI 2024, PSG Talon performed pretty well. Reaching the top 8 can be considered an achievement for them.
  • Fukuoka SoftBank HAWKS players mainly battle in the Japanese league, but in 2024, they finished 2nd in two PCS splits.

VCS teams

The Vietnamese League of Legends Championship sends two teams to World 2024.

  • GAM Esports have been dominating their home region for quite a while. At MSI 2024, they were 9th-10th place.
  • Vikings Esports have confidently occupied 2nd place in VCS. They are a fresh force on the international scene.

CBLOL and LLA teams

The Latin American and Brazilian League of Legends championships have one team each in Worlds 2024.

  • Rainbow7 is the winner of LLA Closing 2024.
  • paiN Gaming won CBLOL Split 2 2024 after defeating Keyd Stars in the grand final.

International success is something that all these teams have not really experienced yet. Therefore, it's easy to imagine their motivation.
