esports.gg chats with Fnatic’s midlaner Marek “Humanoid” Brazda

Esports.gg had the chance to talk to Fnatic's mid laner Marek "Humanoid" Brazda, about everything from his opinions on the meta to giving him lore lessons.

Fnatic put a swift end to the regular season Cinderella story of SK Gaming this weekend in a quick 2-0 series that saw Fnatic dismantle the unexpected contenders. After the games, Humanoid sat down to chat about why he can't wait to play G2 next week, and how he doesn't know much about the lore behind LoL.

Humanoid thinks SK might have "wanted to pull a Fnatic"

Marek "Humanoid" Brazda: "I feel pretty happy after today, I feel we all played pretty well. So I’m happy about that, and I’m kind of looking forward to playing G2. I mean, they haven’t won yet, but it’s probably going to be against G2."

SK outperformed a lot of their expectations in the regular split, but they looked pretty lost against you guys. What didn't come together for them today?

"I mean, I don’t know for sure, today they played a lot worse than they played in the regular split. Maybe it’s just a bad day for them or something. Maybe they wanted to pull a Fnatic and have a really bad day. Yeah."

We've been speaking to a lot of pro players who feel like the meta post mid-season feels really volatile. How do you feel about where the game is at following the Midseason Update? Do you feel the volatility some other pros are talking about?

"There’s volatility in-game, but champion selected feels kind of expected, you know? There’s not really any weird picks. I think every role has two or three picks that are just the top picks, and everybody just plays those. But, for sure, the games are bloody because there’s either Sejuani in jungle that can engage a lot, or there’s the AP junglers that just do so much damage. So there’s just naturally going to be a lot of fighting."

We've been polling pro players and coaches to ask their opinions on the new international tournament that will feature Fearless Draft. Do you have any thoughts on Fearless Draft as a format, and what do you think about playing an international tournament with a completely different format from the regular split?

"I think Fearless Draft is for sure good for the viewing experience, I think it’s also more fun to play as a player. But, I think one bad thing about [Fearless] is that draft matters a lot more. I don’t like when you go into game and you know you have a really bad draft because you messed up in [champion select]. I would like the game to be mostly about how you play it out instead of how you pick your champions. Yeah, I don’t mind playing in a tournament like that, but probably all of them shouldn’t be like this."

Trading meta knowledge for lore trivia

This next question has absolutely nothing to do with pro play. Have you seen Arcane Season 1?

"Yeah, I have."

If you could choose a region for Arcane to go to in Season 3 and beyond, what region would you choose? And what champion would you want to see on the big screen?

"I mean I don’t really know much about the story of League. I think the Void could be a good idea. It could be really interesting. I would like to see…hmm…I mean, I don’t know the story of the champs so I can’t say what it would be about but like Kai’Sa would be interesting. Kai’Sa and all the other monsters."

You're the first person to want the Void, maybe we could finally get that Kassadin and Kai'Sa father/daughter reunion.

"Wait, what? Kassadin is Kai’Sa’s dad? That’s cool!"

Yeah, Kai'Sa is abducted into the Void as a child and Kassadin goes in after her.

"I had no idea."

Is there a particular reason you're excited to face G2, as you mentioned earlier?

"We’ve lost to them many times before this year, so it’s exciting every time we face them. They’re the best team in Europe right now and I just want to break the losing streak."

Any words for Fnatic fans cheering you guys on as you head further into playoffs?

"Yeah! I want to say thank you to everyone. Every day there are a lot of Fnatic fans in the crowd, no matter who we play against. I’m really happy about that, it gives us a lot of motivation."

Fnatic will return to face G2 Esports on Monday, June 22nd for the first ticket to the finals of the Summer 2024 split.
