xBlyzes at the Hearthstone Grandmasters: Last Call Playoffs

The entire Hearthstone Grandmasters: Last Call tournament happened over the course of four weeks in total. The first three weeks had players fighting for the most points, and only the top competitors advanced to the playoffs weekend.

In the kick-off weekend, Bunnyhoppor took home the crown. Then, the second week showcased the prowess of xBlyzes under the Trio format. xBlyzes played XL Alignment Druid, XXL Spell Mage and Holy Paladin for the win against Bunnyhoppor.

After levik won in the third week, the xBlyzes and Bunnyhoppor rivalry became front and center once more. These two players clashed in the Hearthstone Grandmasters: Last Call playoff finals again to determine who will achieve victory.

A Story of Redemption and Victory

With the conclusion of the Hearthstone Grandmasters: Last Call Playoffs, xBlyzes secured a place in the 2022 Hearthstone World Championship. He also got his redemption after being only one game away from Worlds back in 2021. The sudden drop from the game sparked clashing opinions over on Twitter, but xBlyzes persisted with competitive Hearthstone.

His perseverance led to incredible matches throughout this year. xBlyzes won the kick-off weekend of Grandmasters 2022 Season 1 and placed high in the third week of that tournament series.

When it was time for the Hearthstone Grandmasters: Last Call Playoffs, xBlyzes became a top contender to take home the gold. Going into the weekend, he had a total of 9 points. Under the best-of-seven Conquest format, xBlyzes went for XL Ping Mage, XL Quest Priest, XL Relic Demon Hunter, Giant Druid and Tempo Rogue.

Rogues, Rogues and More Rogues

xBlyzes won the first game thanks to a Reckless Apprentice casting a lethal ping to the face. Next, thanks to his Seek Guidance quest completion, he played Purified Shard and destroyed his opponent. After winning the board control game with his XL Relic Demon Hunter, xBlyzes was only one point away from ultimate victory.

However, this winning streak ended when xBlyzes went for his Tempo Rogue. He lost three games in a row against Bunnyhoppor’s Mage, Priest and Shaman with that Rogue deck. Over on Twitter, he indicated how it wasn’t his favorite deck to play during the tournament even before he went into the finals.

When it all came down to the last game between xBlyzes and Bunnyhoppor, it was a Tempo Rogue mirror. Both players flung cards from other classes for Wildpaw Gnoll discounts while weaving in damage to the face.

After playing multiple cards on his fourth turn, xBlyzes put Necrolord Draka on the board. This Legendary minion from the Murder at Castle Nathria expansion gave xBlyzes a fearsome 10/3 weapon, and the player didn’t hesitate to go face with it. After drawing Wicked Stab (Rank 2) on his next turn, xBlyzes had enough damage for lethal. He played Sinister Strike, Wicked Stab (Rank 2) and hit face with his weapon for the win!

From December 16-18, xBlyzes will be among the top 16 players fighting for the lion’s share of the $500,000 USD prize pool plus a place in the Hearthstone Esports Hall of Champions!
