There are several highly anticipated video games arriving in 2023 that you’ll want to add to your library.

While esports are heavily focused on team-based games, battle royales, and fighters, gaming is rooted in the single player experience. If you enjoy kicking back on the couch with a thrilling story in the palm of your hands, you have a lot to look forward to in the coming year. The most anticipated games releasing in 2023 will have you plenty busy.

  • Publisher: Warner Bros. Entertainment Interactive
  • Platform(s): PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Hogwarts Legacy has been on the "most anticipated" list of video games for years. It was first revealed in 2020, but saw a delay from its intended 2021 release date. The developers weren't able to meet the 2022 timeframe and that's how we got the February launch. Except for last-gen and the Switch, which will arrive in April and July, respectively.

The game takes place in the 1890s at Hogwarts, the acclaimed witchcraft and wizardry school of the Harry Potter universe. You play the role of a student in this action RPG, at a time when the wizarding world is threatened. Customization, spells, and important decision-making drive the narrative in this one.

  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
  • Platform(s): Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows

Starfield adds to the anticipated action role-playing games coming in 2023. Bethesda has not yet revealed an exact release date, but has assured it will launch in the first half of 2023. This comes after they delayed it from a November 2022 date back in May.

Microsoft will look to rival Sony's PlayStation exclusives once more with Starfield. Space travel advanced enough by the year 2310 that humanity settled regions up to 50 lightyears away. A war took place between the game's two main factions and you start your journey of exploration around 20 years after.

  • Release Date: 5/12/2023
  • Developer: Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development Division
  • Publisher: Nintendo
  • Platform(s): Nintendo Switch

The most anticipated games releasing in 2023 had their own category at The Game Awards 2022. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom took it home. Until its reveal in September, it was simply known as the sequel to Breath of the Wild. Like most games, it faced delays of its own, but there shouldn't anything stopping it from its new target.

There isn't much known right now about the story, though players can expect the same incredible style Breath of the Wild delivered. Several ideas that couldn't fit in BOTW's DLC were saved and used to create the sequel. There's no doubt that it will be a hit.

  • Developer: Insomniac Games
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platform(s): PlayStation 5

Multiple sequels are on the slate for 2023. This includes the follow-up to what many have labelled the greatest superhero game ever created. That would be Marvel's Spider-Man with the sequel titled Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

The game will tie together the events of the previous game with those of the spin-off, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Both Miles and Peter Parker will be the protagonists with none other than Venom making his way into this universe as the villain.

  • Release Date: 3/17/2023
  • Developer: Respawn Entertainment
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Platform(s): PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a refreshing entry in the iconic franchise's long line of video games. It was a masterful story with new and well-known characters that built upon the beloved Star Wars media. The sequel, Star Wars Jed: Survivor, is at the top of many gamers' most anticipated releases for 2023.

The gameplay of the first iteration returns, but the stakes of the narrative are much higher. Five years after Fallen Order, Cal Kestis is still on the run from the Galactic Empire as they hunt the last remaining Jedi. With more and more Jedi being found, both time and any potential allies are running out for Cal.
