Future Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) winners will receive the new Blade of Champions Pickaxe.

The era of Fortnite's Axe of Champions has ended with the revelation of the Blade of Champions. Since the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) emerged in 2019, each seasonal winner would receive a portion of the prize pool and the in-game Axe of Champions reward. This Pickaxe was the ultimate flex, as only FNCS winners would own this cosmetic reward until the following season. Epic Games has announced that the FNCS Blade of Champions will replace the Axe of Champions.

Fortnite's FNCS Blade of Champions steps in for the Axe of Champions

Beginning in Chapter 3 Season 2, triumphant FNCS teams would unlock the Axe of Champions 2.0 in exchange for winning the game's most significant tournament. It remained the pinnacle of Fortnite cosmetics for nearly two years before Epic Games released it for all players to purchase. However, with Chapter 6 on the horizon, the developers are turning the page.

Epic teased the new FNCS Pickaxe in a video posted on various Fortnite Competitive social media accounts. Dubbed the Blade of Champions, this new glorious Pickaxe sports different glowing shades of purple with a gold FNCS insignia. The brief video indicates this will be the "sword" type of Pickaxe that your character will keep both hands on when swinging. However, we will have to wait for further confirmation.

Acquiring the FNCS Blade of Champions is simple but not easy. It's safe to assume that only each season's FNCS-winning Trio will earn the in-game cosmetic and hold it until they don't finish first in an FNCS tournament.

When will the Fortnite Champion Series return in Chapter 6?

To conclude the FNCS Global Championship 2024, Epic Games revealed a massive change to the tournament structure. The tournament organizers decided to switch from Duos to Trios, reintroduce the beloved Siphon mechanic, and an $8 million prize pool. A recent post from the Fortnite Competitive team teased an announcement on Dec. 7, which is "FNCS-related," so that may be the kick-off date.

We expect to hear more about plans for the Fortnite Chapter 6 FNCS and Blade of Champions soon, but it's certainly a new era in the competitive scene.
