FISSURE Universe: Episode 4 came to an end today, giving us a fourth new winner for the 2025 Dota 2 tournaments.
It has been a little over a week since FISSURE Universe: Episode 4 kicked off. The online Dota 2 tournament began with 16 amazing teams before being cut down to eight after the culmination of the Group Stages. There were no major surprises there, with teams such as Tundra Esports, Team Liquid, and Team Spirit crowding out the Top 3 going into the Playoffs.
However, over the Playoff Stage, those three teams, all winners of Dota 2 events so far in 2025, have been eliminated. This means that FISSURE Universe: Episode 4 would see a fourth different champion being crowned.
A different look to 2025
Going into the final day of FISSURE Universe: Episode 4, three teams remained. Team Tidebound, BetBoom Team (BB), and Gaimin Gladiators (GG). While Tidebound was the new hopeful Chinese team, the remaining two squads had not been at their best for some time.
With that said, GG did place second at BLAST Slam II earlier in 2025. However, for both of these teams, wins had not been seen since 2024. This made the final day even more interesting, as we would see a fourth different champion for the year, with a long list of tournaments still to come.
For the past two years, we have seen a single team constantly on the front foot at Tier 1 tournaments. In 2023, it was GG that dominated nearly every event in the early parts of the year, while 2024 had Team Falcons taking the top honors a lot of the time.
While there were challengers at times, Dota 2 fans have become used to a single team controlling events outside of The International. 2025 seems to be quite different. So far, we have seen three different winners for the year, with Tundra, Liquid, and Spirit claiming victories at events.
This could be due to multiple factors, including the huge 7.38 gameplay update, which rocked the meta. As players adapt and improvise, new challengers arise, making their metas overcome opposition. That is something we are seeing now.

Having sent GG to the lower bracket, BB was all set in the grand finals – they merely awaited their opponent. While Tidebound tried their best, they could only muster a third-place ending for the event, while GG stepped up for a rematch.
Unfortunately for them, BB seemed far and miles ahead – easily dominating the series. This is BB’s first win since December 2024, when they beat out Tundra to take BLAST Slam I.
With FISSURE Universe: Episode 4 over, teams now prepare for their next challenge at ESL One Raleigh 2025. Although GG will not be at the upcoming tournament, the remaining Top 8 teams from FISSURE will all be in attendance and fighting against five more hopefuls.
For now, BetBoom Team can take pride in being the fourth different winner in an amazing 2025 for Dota 2. We now wait to see if the next event can produce team number 5.
