It's getting hard to stay up-to-date with all Deadlock patch notes as Valve is constantly updating the game based on feedback collected from the growing playerbase on the playtest servers.

Especially because of Deadlock's uniqueness, a mixture of the MOBA and hero shooter genres. Any major changes can overpower a hero or completely nerf them to oblivion. Not to mention that the map itself is getting tweaks too as Valve polishes the game design.

So, to help you keep up with Deadlock's meta, we've gathered the most important information of all major Deadlock patch notes since the game was officially confirmed. We'll also update this article every time Valve developers release a new major Deadlock patch.

November 22, 2024: Significant matchmaking updates

From now on, the matchmaking pools are no longer split between the Normal and Ranked ladders.

Additionally, the Ranked badges will update immediatelly whenever you gain or lose enough MMR. Valve will also add a "core" MMR — essentially the overall MMR — and one different MMR for each hero.

So, all in all, we got some nice quality-of-life changes to matchmaking in the Nov. 22 update.

November 7, 2024: New hero Trapper added to Hero Labs

The main takeaways from the Nov. 7 update is the addition of Trapper to Hero Labs and Quickbuy. With Quickbuy, players can right-click items in the shop and add them to their Quickbuy queue.

October 24, 2024: Hero Labs

In this huge patch, the developers added a new game mode called Hero Labs. The goal of Hero Labs is to let the playerbase experiment with heroes that are still in early development and share their feedback with the devs.

October 10, 2024: Ranked mode added

Deadlock will have a Ranked mode starting on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The mode will only support solo queue for now, and players must have 50 games played to participate.

There will be 11 medals with six levels in each, and the medals will be updated once per week. The players must play at least seven ranked matches to get a new rank each week. You can only be matched with players that have the same medal as you.

The queue opens from 1 p.m to 4 p.m and 7 p.m to 10 p.m. in the respective time zones every day. If you want to do well in Ranked, find out who are the best heroes below.

September 26, 2024: New hero Mirage and initial anti-cheat system added

A lot has changed in Deadlock on Sept. 26, but most importantly, there's a new hero called Mirage. His abilities suggest he's a damage dealer who can disengage fast. We covered Mirage's addition in a detailed article, which you can read below.

On top of that, the developers also added an initial anti-cheat detection system. Here's how it works:

When a user is detected as cheating, during the game session the opponents will be given a choice between banning the user immediately and ending the match or turning the cheater into a frog for the rest of the game and then banning them afterwards.

The system is set to conservative detection levels as we work on a v2 anti-cheat system that is more extensive. We will turn on the banning of users in a couple of days after the update is out. When a match is ended this way, the results will not count for other players.

How Deadlock's first anti-cheat works

September 17, 2024: Soul sharing exploit fixed

It was just a small update, but Valve most notably "fixed players being able to exploit soul sharing across multiple lanes" as they were earning more souls than intended. The devs also fixed Grey Talon's Charge Short and Vindicta's Assassinate cameras as it wasn't working as intended.

September 14, 2024: Bebop's Hyper Beam got a massive nerf

A lot of players were straight-out farming kills thanks to Bebop's Ultimate ability Hyper Beam, so Valve nerfed it on September 14.

  • Bebop: Hyper Beam cooldown increased from 117 to 130
  • Bebop: Hyper Beam T1 reduced from -38s to -30s
  • Bebop: Hyper Beam end radius reduced from 5m to 4m
  • Bebop: Hyper Beam slow reduced from 40% to 30%
  • Bebop: Hyper Beam DPS reduced from 220 to 205
  • Bebop: Hyper Beam DPS spirit scaling reduced from 3 to 2.7

September 12, 2024: 24/7 matchmaking, huge Kelvin nerfs, and new minimap

There was a lot to unpack from the September 12 Deadlock patch notes. Most importantly, the matchmaking became available 24/7 across all regions. On top of that, Valve also added a new minimap, and pushed balance changes to a lot of heroes, most notably Kelvin.

  • Kelvin: Arctic Beam fire rate slow reduced from 80% to 40%
  • Kelvin: Arctic Beam movement slow reduced from 80% to 70%
  • Kelvin: Objectives and Rejuvenator are now frozen and invulnerable when under frozen shelter
  • Kelvin: Ice Path and Arctic Beam can now also be canceled by hitting the ability key again

September 1, 2024: Plenty of Viscous nerfs

Although the Deadlock patch notes on September 1 didn't bring much, one of the heroes—Viscous—got some newsworthy nerfs.

  • Viscous: Puddle Punch base cast range from 60m to 40m
  • Viscous: Puddle Punch T2 damage from +50 to +35
  • Viscous: Puddle Punch base cooldown increased from 24 to 28
  • Viscous: Puddle Punch now knocks people less high into the air
  • Viscous: Base clip reduced from 24 to 20, Alt Fire now requires 5 bullets

One of the most substantial Deadlock patches ever was the August 29 update. While there were a ton of balance changes, the developers most notably changed the map a lot and introduced wall jumping.

  • Added wall jumping (does not consume stamina, requires input direction away from the wall, can be done once)
  • Added ropes to some buildings to let you climb up (hold jump key to latch onto them). Can shoot while hanging on them.
  • A pair of teleporters has been added to the outer lanes at the midpoint (near the three red neutral creeps)
  • Four teleporters have changed locations
  • The upper floor teleporters have moved to the street level
  • The interior teleporters have moved to the Bodega building and the Theater
  • Teleporters are closed for the first 10 minutes (they look visually closed)
  • Several buildings have been made taller to make their rooftops out of bounds
  • Several buildings have been made shorter to make them more accessible
  • A few of the buildings have new passageways at higher floors that are along the way to the rooftop

Though everybody knew Deadlock existed thanks to the playtest, Valve was reluctant to announce the game. Not only did Valve announce the game on August 23, but it also finally allowed community websites, discussion, and most importantly, players to stream Deadlock.
