The Rio Grand Finals is on October 13.

IEM Rio will feature a best of five Grand finals, ESL has revealed today. The change in the Grand Finals format is a growing trend the scene has witnessed over the past few months. The Grand Finals would give an exciting display of competition for Counter-Strike fans as they look to watch their favorite teams in action. 

Why the move to Bo5?

"We’ve found with the change over to MR12 and generally quicker matches, we have decided to opt for a Best-of-5 Grand Finals"

With Counter-Strike 2 moving to an MR12 format, hosting Bo5 Grand Finals has become more feasible. The shorter format Counter-Strike matches make for more enjoyable series with quicker resolutions. At the same time, having best of five Grand Finals ensures that fans can get the full length of competition between two teams. As such, the top tier teams would require to have a broader map pool in order to have a competitive advantage in the Grand Finals. 

"With fans traveling to our events from far and wide, we want to ensure that we deliver a suitable amount of guaranteed content to those who have purchased tickers."

IEM Rio starts soon after the conclusion of the BLAST Premier Fall Finals. The Fall Finals features some of the best teams in action and

IEM Rio has sixteen of the best teams in action. The teams will compete over seven days with the Grand Finals taking place on the 13th of this month. The tournament takes place at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro with a $250,000 prize pool. The Playoffs kick off on October 9, with a single-elimination bracket. Counter-Strike fans can catch all the action live on Twitch.
