LA Thieves GM Muddawg steps down, becomes Director of Talent Strategy

After helping LA Thieves win their first World Championship, the Call of Duty team’s Muddawg has accepted another role in the organization.

Today marks the end of an era for LA Thieves, as General Manager Eric “Muddawg” Sanders has chosen to step down from his position. Subsequently, he accepted another role talent role within the organization. The announcement surfaced on Twitter, where Sanders stated that Call of Duty Champs 2022 would be his last as General Manager of the team.

A true veteran in the scene, Muddawg competed at the highest level in Call of Duty before accepting a management role for OpTic Los Angeles. He joined LA Thieves after 100 Thieves acquired OpTic LA's Call of Duty League (CDL) spot. Sanders leaves behind a legacy, including many years in the scene and an LA Thieves World Championship victory.

LA Thieves’ Twitter account posted a video of an emotional Muddawg. In the two-minute monologue, The former GM explained what Call of Duty has meant to him for over a decade. Furthermore, Sanders spoke about the bonds he built and the hardships he endured as GM of the team. 

Muddawg vowed he would be around the LA Thieves despite accepting a talent role within 100 Thieves. He expanded upon the unexpected announcement in a follow-up tweet

“Today is my last day running Call of Duty for 100T, as well as my last day working in the CoD space after over a decade. This decision was immensely difficult for me to make and brings a clash of emotions. Call of Duty and the community have given me so much.”

Muddawg has played a crucial role since LA Thieves joined the CDL in 2020. After two sub-par seasons, the team hit their stride in Call of Duty: Vanguard. Thieves won Major 4 and the Call of Duty League 2022 Championship, totaling $1.4 million in prize winnings. 

It’s unclear who will replace Muddawg as GM of LA Thieves. However, it seems likely that Envoy, Kenny, Octane, Drazah, JKap, and ShAne won’t be leaving amid the current CDL Rostermania
