That’s one way to get a Paid Time Off!

There are a few games that can become a social sensation and Black Myth Wukong is one such game that has Chinese fans in a frenzy. With over 4.5 million copies sold within three days of launch, the game has been off to a great start. However, the craze for the game can be ascertained by the fact that some companies gave their employees time off to play the video game. Now that’s a place you would want to work at.

China goes Crazy over Blcak Myth Wukong

Black Myth Wukong has been one of the most anticipated games of the year. The game was the most wish-listed title on Steam and has been off to a fantastic start post-launch. With over 4.5 million copies sold within a few days of launch, it is clear that the game has been a phenomenal success.

Several companies in China have announced holidays for their employees just to play the game according to OrientalDaily. Sichuan Muziyang Technology Co Ltd allowed employees a day off to play Black Myth Wukong. Gamera Game went a step ahead. Not only did Gamera Game give employees a day off, but they also gifted employees the Deluxe edition of the game. Game Teahous gave employees half a day’s time and reimbursed them for the cost of the game.

Company holidays to play video games are unprecedented and it speaks volumes to the game’s popularity in China. The vast majority of gamers on Steam right now are from China, and only around 3% gamers are English-speaking. As news spreads about the game and it already has some positive reviews, we expect Black Myth Wukong sales to pick up pace.

Meanwhile, the cultural impact of Black Myth Wukong can be judged from the fact that other companies are incorporating Wukong into their promotional campaigns. Didi, Lenovo Group and Luckin Coffee have used Black Myth Wukong materials to advertise in China.

Black Myth Wukong has been largely hailed as China’s first AAA game title. However, unlike several other Chinese games, this title is available on PC and PS5 for now. Chinese gamers are mostly used to mobile devices and Black Myth Wukong with its extensive research and development sets a new ceiling for Chinese game development.

The game developer also released a statement urging players to take their time to complete the game.

“Play slowly, don't rush to clear the level, anyway, there is no other better choice for the time being.”

We must say for a game that has seen some excellent development, it is difficult to play slowly. More so when you get a holiday from your company to enjoy the title.
