Popular musician Post Malone hosted an Apex Legends Charity Stream to raise funds that were donated to The Trevor Project, an initiative to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

Singer-songwriter and rapper Post Malone was the talk of the town on Twitch after hosting an Apex Legends charity stream.

The popular musician created a private lobby in the multiplayer shooter where he invited some of the biggest names within the community. These names included retired pros and streamers like ItzTimmy and Aceu.

Respawn Entertainment, the developers of Apex Legends collaborated with him to host and promote the charity event. The event titled Gamers for Love spanned four days, featuring some of the biggest names within the Apex Legends community. The proceeds from the charity event were donated to multiple organizations and projects that support the LGBTQIA+ community.

Post Malone's stream raised nearly $200k

Post Malone's stream was considered a resounding success and he managed to raise nearly $200k for the LGBTQIA+ community.

The musician behind hit songs such as "Sunflower" and "Rockstar", enthusiastically took to Twitter to share the good news, thanking his viewers for their support. For those surprised a well-known star is into gaming, don't forget the time Tom Holland made his way into Apex Legends.

Multiple Human Rights organizations received funds

The proceeds found their way into the accounts of Human Rights organizations.

The organizations included:

  • LGBTQIA+ support group, The Trevor Project
  • Health and humanitarian organization, Project Hope
  • Human Rights organizations, Human Rights Watch and The United Way

Plenty of big names from the Apex Legends community joined the stream and participated in the event. Professional Apex Legends esports players like Snipedown, ImperialHal, and Rogue joined the tournament alongside streamers and retired pros like ItzTimmy and aceu were among the biggest names to feature at the event.

The charity stream attracted some criticism for lack of representation

Post Malone's stream attracted some criticism from the LGBTQIA+ community on the final day when he raised funds for The Trevor Project. Some critics called out the lack of actual LGBTQIA+ participants in the charity event. According to them, the point of an event like this should be to platform minority groups and let their voices be heard. Apex Legends is a popular video game among the LGBTQIA+ community, owing to its diverse roster of playable queer characters.

To celebrate reaching the funding target, Post Malone made for some hilarious entertainment by trying some interesting stunts live on stream. These included a shooey and a failed backlip, much to everyone's amusement. The stream ended on a wholesome note with all the participants sharing a laugh with the musician.
