FaZe Clan are heading to Japan.

FaZe Clan won an intense EMEA ALGS LCQ, closing out a Match Point win in nine games. The roster, that added JMW during the short break after the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs, came into the event as one of the favourites but had to work hard to secure their spot.

They will be joined in Japan by Ethernal, who snuck into second place at the opportune moment. Both teams will now have a shot at grabbing some of the huge $2,000,000 prize pool on offer when the ALGS Champs gets under way at the end of January, 2025.

FaZe Clan secure ALGS Champs spot

FaZe Clan will be delighted to book their spot in Japan, having dominated across the LCQ's earlier stages. Sinetic, who was in fine form all weekend, broke the record for the most kills in a top level ALGS event on Saturday.

This team made a huge decision to part ways with Arctic after the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs, and this seems to have paid dividends. FaZe now have another chance at LAN after falling short in Germany and Riyadh.

It took nine games for FaZe to grab a Match Point win. However, FaZe Clan fumbled two golden opportunities to end the tournament earlier. They finished agonisingly close in both game six and game seven. Their opportunity in game seven was particularly strong. JMW was able to make use of Crypto's instant respawn and a Mobile Respawn Beacon to bring back both Sinetic and Naghz in the final circle.

Both Golem and EnhancedAim were on top of eachother, forced to fight and unable to focus FaZe Clan who were able to reset. However, an over extension from Naghz handed EnhancedAim, who had wiped Golem, the advantage. This cost them the 3v3 and meant that the tournament extended to at least an eighth game.

Despite this frustration, the huge amount of points that FaZe racked up across these two games did help secure at least a second place spot for them, booking their spot in Japan no matter what.

This took the pressure off even as more and more teams passed the 50 point threshold. FaZe knew that they were pretty much guaranteed a top two finish regardless of the Match Point format. This is perhaps what helped them stay loose and close out a victory.

FaZe lead ALGS LCQ top ten:

  • FaZe Clan - 114 (Q)
  • Ethernal - 77 (Q)
    ------------------------------------------------
  • Forbidden - 72
  • GoNext - 72
  • cybercats - 69
  • Atlas - 67
  • The Full English - 67
  • DMS - 66
  • Golem - 64
  • MPIRE Gaming - 63

Ethernal snag second to join FaZe in Japan

Ethernal were able to take advantage of FaZe closing out the ALGS LCQ by grabbing second place at just the right time. The race to lock in the second spot was incredibly close, with any of the top ten teams genuinely having a strong chance at qualification depending on when the games ended.

Cybercats and GoNext Esports were both in the qualification position at various points during the tournament, with teams like Atlas also running close. Ethernal struggled across the first few games, with a huge win in game four really kick starting their tournament.

In a Match Point lobby, sometimes it's about when someone else wins rather than when you do. Ethernal found themselves in a top five entirely on Match Point. They knew they either had to win, or FaZe had to win.

While Ethernal could not snatch the win themselves, despite having a strong final circle spot, they had already done enough to book their spot in Japan regardless of falling just short of a Match Point win.
