Marvel Rivals has a ranked system just like any other game. You have to unlock it, play well, and progress through the different ranks. It isn't too complicated, but it definitely has its own way of doing things compared to some other games.

How to unlocked the Competitive queue in Marvel Rivals
You don't have to win a crazy number of games or reach a super high rank to unlock the Competitive mode in Marvel Rivals. You just have to play enough to hit level 10.
Once your account is at level 10, ranked unlocks for you. From there, you can queue up alone or with friends who are in adjacent ranks. They consider Bronze and Silver one rank, so they can play with anyone in Gold.

You'll see that most ranks have three tiers to progress through. Once you reach the highest ranks in Marvel Rivals, those tiers go away. Eternity and One Above simply go by a point system, where you eventually go dormant and lose points if you don't play for a while.
Eternity is considered one of the best ranks in the game, but only the best of the best reach One Above All. That rank is reserved for the Top 500 players in the game, and the rewards earned each season will certainly reflect that.
Promotions, shields, and more
If you win, you get points based on your performance. Every Tier requires 100 points for you to advance to the next one. Then at the highest ranks of the Marvel Rivals ranked system, you'll simply earn points to go up and up on the leaderboard.
At certain ranks, you'll be granted a Chrono Shield. These are used to stop you from being demoted. Once you fall under a certain rank's point threshold, a Chrono Shield will come in handy to give you one last chance to stay in that rank before a demotion.
There's nothing that says any game modes or maps are banned, and games may have multiple rounds so each team gets a chance on both sides. In Diamond III and above, Marvel Rivals notes its ranked system introduces a singular hero ban per team.
