Here’s how to sign up for the next Spectre playtest and all future events after it.

Spectre hopes to be the latest and greatest tactical FPS once it hits the market, and the game is already in the playtest stage of development. New studio Mountaintop is slowly pulling back the curtain, revealing the game’s central Duality mechanic and giving glimpses at the maps. If those small tastes aren’t enough for you, it's also possible to hop into the game itself and try it out before the official launch.

How to sign up for the next Spectre playtest

To enter the playtest pool, follow these steps.

  1. Sign in on your preferred platform
  2. Link your Discord account
  3. Confirm your playtest signup
  4. Go the the #verification channel in Discord and confirm your signup

Complete all of these tests to enter the potential playtest pool. This does not guarantee that you will be picked, as Mountaintop likely wants players on certain platforms for each playtest. The questionnaire also asks players to estimate their skill level, age, and gender, which could affect the selection process.

If you are selected, you will get an email explaining how to download the game and connect to the playtest. Events tend to be very brief, with the most recent Spectre playtest on Jan. 20 lasting only a single day. Keep your eyes peeled for the next announcement and double-check your registration.

When is the next playtest?

Mountaintop has not revealed the date of the next Spectre playtest, but based on the timing of previous events, it's safe to expect another playtest sometime in early 2024.

The first playtest for Spectre took place in August 2023 for just two days. There were then two more events in October and December of that year. There appears to be a plan for a small playtest once every two months. Based on that schedule, the next beta for Spectre will likely be in late February 2024. A Discord message regarding a broken verification bot later confirmed that schedule.

The playtests appear to feature different characters and maps along with gameplay tweaks. Note that players must sign a non-disclosure agreement as part of signing up, so very little information is officially available.
