All weapon longshot distances in MW2

Each weapon category in MW2 requires a different distance for it to be a longshot kill, which you’ll need to know to keep unlocking camos.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had loads of weapon camos for you to unlock. You will have to complete a challenge for just about all of them. You might have to get a certain number of headshot kills. The challenge could even require netting kills across long distances. In MW2, these are called longshot kills, and the distances needed vary between weapons.

To get these longshot kills, you have to be a good distance away from your enemy. There's no indication in the game that tells you truly how far out you are, but you'll be notified on-screen if the kill counts as a longshot kill.

Here are the distances you must be from your target with each type of weapon so it can be considered a longshot kill:

  • Sniper Rifles: 50 meters
  • Battle Rifles: 38 meters
  • Marksman Rifles: 38 meters
  • Assault Rifles: 38 meters
  • Light Machine Guns: 38 meters
  • Submachine Guns: 30 meters
  • Pistols: 20 meters
  • Shotguns: 12.5 meters

Weapon categories that aren't effective in long-ranged combat, of course, require a shorter distance to complete a longshot kill in MW2. And the likes of the BR, MR, AR, and LMG classes all have the same distance, so you might need to get creative with your loadouts to make sure your shots land efficiently.

You can easily complete most weapon challenges in the Invasion or Ground War modes. These pit you against a vast amount of enemies, so there's a chance around every corner for you to move your challenge forward.

Start by piecing together a loadout for the weapon that requires longshot kills for one of its camo challenges. Look to increase its range and accuracy above all else. When you've done that, start up a match of Invasion or Ground War.

Invasion mixes in AI enemies while Ground War is a massive battlefield with only real players. Practice by eliminating enemies from a long distance. If the indicator that you got a longshot kill does not appear, extend the range in which you're firing upon the opposition.

Do that until you've gotten the number of kills you need to complete the challenge and unlock the weapon camo.
